A foodie's guide to eating out in Kolkata-The City of FOOD π

From Arts, Culture, Drama, Literature and love for
sports like Cricket and Football-Kolkata is known for all the heritage it keeps
and one among them is the variety of lipsmacking food dishes available almost
in all corners of the streets of Kolkata.
The city is phenomenal when it comes to street
foods!
Jhaal Muri with lipsmacking masalas
topped with Imli chutney and packed with love in a small paper bag,
yummilicious Phuchka aka Gol gappa, Pav Bhaji, tawa cooked piping
hot Egg rolls with shredded chicken and chillis are few must haves when you are
new to the town.

Some antiquated restaurants having old world charm are worth
mentioning:
Anadi Cabin in Esplanade area has its speciality in Mughlai Parathas,a bengali street food
originated in Kolkata- a flanky pastry stuffed with chicken keema and eggs,
Kashiramer Telebhaja in Beadon Street famous for preparation of gastronomic fritters for the past 60
years, all priced at just Rs.2.50- A really cheap yet tasty evening snack to go
for!
Paramount Sherbats and Syrups in College Street is a 100 years old historical small eatery which pops
in Sharbet, Special mention-Daab Sherbats and Mango Malais. One finds
peace sitting on the tottery chairs sipping the cool Tender coconut water or
gulping away the mango malai!

Nahoum and Sons in New Market Area- An iconic Jewish bakery
famed for cakes, tarts, cookies, brownies. "The
cake used to be supplied to government houses. When Archbishop of Canterbury
Geoffrey Fisher came to Kolkata, they served him Nahoum’s fruit cake and he
said it was the best fruit cake he had ever eaten"- Owner Issac Nahoum.
Arsalan Restaurant and Caterer a much lauded
Biriyani Master has a superb combination of hospitality and
delicious savory Biriyani dish- A mild fragrant rice with hot and tangy flavor
loaded with spicy marinated chicken, caramelized onions and fried with Indian
spices. The speciality of this restaurant is that you get to have an Aloo
aka potato and egg along with the Biriyani!

Surya Kumar Modak and Grandsons in Chandannagar- Around 45kms from Kolkata the famous "Jolbhora
Sandesh". You must taste this variety once in a lifetime to feel the real
taste of a Bengali sweet. It's a must try for people coming down to Bengal. It
is prepared from cottage cheese and has a juicy centre filled with Rose
syrup or "Nolen Gur".

Luchi Aloo Dum -Once in
Bengal, Luchi and Aloo Dum is a must try- Can be found in every nook and
corner of Kolkata streets specially during the breakfast time because it makes
your tummy full!
These are a few of the loads of restaurants, late
night eats, Cafes, Bakery, Sweet Shop available in Kolkata. Whenever in the
city, keep some room in belly and enjoy the delicacies round all corners!π
