Ayobowan Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka is a small country with lush green landscape described as "The finest island of its size in all the world" by Marco Polo.

We visited this small country months back in March and was wonderstruck by the natural beauty, the landscapes, the hills, the buddhist monasteries, temples, historical places and worth mentioning the cool tea plantations and deep blue open sea.

It was a 3 days short weekend gateaway from Hyderabad, hardly took 2 hours to reach Negombo.
We stayed at Ramada the night before leaving for Kandy. It was a great stay with a very warm welcome by the staff-an unforgettable comfort stay we had.

The next day we started for the hills-the profuse greenery by the two sides of the road will tranquillize the eyes.



The first stop we had was in the Elephant sanctuary in Pinnawala.






We also covered the tea plantations and the ayurvedic centre before reaching the Kandy city.



The Kandy city is a beautiful and pleasing place surrounded by hills being a home for Temple of Tooth Relic- A heritage site declared by UNESCO and also the famous ceylon tea plantation.

The famous Lankan masks are also easily available in the wood factory in Kandy.

The next day we started our journey down south to Galle and Bentota.

We strolled through the white sandy beaches of Galle and Unwatuna, visited the Galle Fort

Next we started for Bentota and stayed at Taj,Bentota- the Tease bar, Palms restaurant, the breathtaking view of Indian Ocean from the room was absolutely marvellous.


Finally we visited Colombo, the hustle bustle downtown and capital city of Lanka.
Colombo National Museum, Galle Face Green, Independence Square and Dutch Hospital Shopping Precinct are some tourist spots in the commercial capital. 

For souvenirs the Dutch hospital Precinct is an ideal place to visit. If you are a real Sea Food Lover, Ministry of Crab is a worth visit restaurant inside the Dutch Hospital complex!



From clouds to seas to hills,from elephant orphanages to monasteries, from balcony ocean views to hilltop tea gardens, in the place of Ravana ,Buddha, Garuda, ,the mesmerising Lanka gave one of the most soothing and luxury escapades of this year.


A fusion of culture, food, natural landscapes and warm hearted people, enlivened hospitality makes Lanka an eye catching destination for travellers round the world.

    Even a cursory reading of the travelogue at fag end of a working day- as if bringing in fresh morning breeze by those shores of Indian Ocean

Gardening-An art of Delight

Being born and brought up in the suburbs of the city, from my early childhood I wake up to the birds chirping, Koel singing around and the lush green plants round the house.  Gardening has become my kinda hobby nowadays although still a novice and most of the part is always managed by our Gardening Queen-Ma.  I love pretty flowers and lovely Ornamental plants that can be easily managed by adding some amount of water and a bit of sunlight everyday.  As there is a little space in the front area of our house, the balcony of one of our bedroom has been a perfect place for some pretty ornamental plants and flowers  There also has been some new additions- Snake Plant, Peace Lily, Money Plant, Aglaonema which I feel will add to some more vibrant colours to the balcony. As the gardening season is at its full bloom,in the back courtyard, the lemon plant and the papaya plant have started bearing fresh fruits! Girl Child- A boon to the society?

Amidst all chaos in life, today I felt to write on an occasion that I was a part of. It was a seven months "Baby Shower" ceremony of a couple who are a very good neighbor of mine. I was invited to their house party. It was a small function with their own family members of the would be father's parents, his sister, sister's kids and his wife (the would be mother). Since I am their neighbor, the only outsider they have invited in this COVID situation, naturally to make me feel a part of their family they were very busy with providing me food, sweets, clicking pictures, the kids were playing with me.  I also thought of clicking few pictures of them thus took out my DSLR and started clicking pictures. They started posing, changed dresses and again posed. I was delighted to see the old parents caring so much for their daughter in law, which is very difficult to see in Indian households.
